For want of a vest

As everyone who hasn't been living under a rock is aware, a guard at the National Holocaust Museum was shot and killed yesterday. The man who killed Stephen T. Johns was an 88 year old Holocaust denier.

I'm watching CNN right now and the big debate is whether the security guard should have been wearing a bullet proof vest. It's an interesting topic to cover. According to CBS News the employee union asked for bullet proof vests two years ago.

"An official with the union that represents the guards says he pushed for protective vests after a man made threatening remarks to guards several years ago. "

Why wouldn't the security company, Wackenhut Security, equip their guards with bullet proof vests? It's all about costs. The vests are very expensive, so they don't provide employees with them. It's horrible and has resulted in the death of Stephen T. Johns.
